The Senegal (Poicephalus Family)
comes from Africa. One in a group of nine
related parrots in the hookbilled family. Three share some of the same
visual markings & coloration; dark grey head, short broad
tails with some
additional color variations.
Senegals are considered to be some of the quietest of the small parrot group, making them a favorite for apartments & homes where noise would be an issue. They have tiny, doll like voices & rarely have behavioral problems but have a sensitive temperament. They do need home and daily routines to be stable. Senegals enjoy independent play, are fond of swings and other acrobatic toys. When properly hand-fed & tamed you'll find them to be acrobatic little clowns which enjoy laying on their backs while playing with you or toys in their cage. They are considered to be one of the smaller parrots with great personality. This species can be very adept escape artists who can break into or out of almost anything. These little parrots are sensitive, humorous and very inventive while playing. Senegals are considered to be one of the least problematic and trouble-free parrots. They are delightful bundle of joy and are very good choice for a first time parrot owner. They're cautious yet eager to please. They feed primarily on seeds, fruits, nuts, and leafy matter. Be aware that many houseplants are poisonous. |
