Quakers originate
in South America and they grow to approximately 13” when mature. The
normal Quaker is green with a soft silver gray underside and wings in
shades of dark blue. They can live more than 20 years and learn
to talk without much trouble (before 6 months). Their speech is a
little gravelly yet easily understandable. Research is showing
that they even understand the context of the words they are using &
use them correctly.
Being very intelligent, when hand-tamed as babies, they socialize well & make excellent pets. Since this species live in colonies in the wild, when hand tamed, they will consider the people and pets at their new home 'their' colony and bond with everyone. However, if only one person interacts with the young quaker in their new home they will only consider that one person their colony or family group. So, its important to have the entire family involved with them. Quaker parrots enjoy being picked up and having human interaction. This will make handling of the Quaker parrot much easier as it matures from an easily handled baby to a mature adult. They tend to love a large variety of toys and food. They make excellent, endearing, and loveable family pets when all members take part playing with them. They love water and will often try bathing in any size food dish or bowl no matter how small, which can be quite comical to watch. |
