They originate from Western Ecuador and Northwestern Peru. They are 4-1/2" to 5" long and are the second smallest Parrot in the world. They're broader than a parakeet or budgie, with a broad short tail. Normal color is a beautiful apple green with blue accents and are sexually dimorphic.
They make very good apartment birds because of their small size and quietness. They do not become as bored as some parrots and entertain themselves if you provide them with toys to play with & chew on.
So full of vitality, they are very curious, outgoing, bold, intelligent and acrobatic. They are fun to interact with and good learners, able to whistle tunes & speak words all in a clear but tiny voice. They bond well with their owners, becoming completely devoted and learn commands easy such as "step up" and "step down" and give kisses.
