IN MEMORY OF “JEWEL
We did not start out as Bayou Bird Nest.  We started with one very small hand fed, hand tamed chick, an Australian Peach Face Love Bird, given to my husband when he became disabled.  He named her “Jewel” for she was a rare and precious gem to all she met.  But she loved her daddy the most!  He could take her anywhere for a stroll. Whether next door in the Big Thicket, or to Pine Island Bayou, even for rides in the car & to visit Granny.

Jewel surely had her daddy wrapped around her little feathers and loved every minute of it.  Her cage sat right beside his recliner in our den.  She was a gift from a very dear relative to my husband, received while recuperating from one of many back surgeries.  This small and delicate bundle of feathers absolutely melted our hearts.  She loved everyone but especially my husband as dearly as he loved her.  She'd snuggle with him all day and they bonded instantly.
Jewel IN her treat jar
Being an "Only Child", Jewel broke the mold on how any other lovebird would naturally behave. She would go visit anyone who came to visit and said "Up Up" to her. She'd give 'em kisses and was friendly with all.  Her wings weren't clipped, she could fly where and when she chose .. she always chose to stay. Needless to say this was the beginning of our love for all feathered friends.. thus we decided that we needed to know more about these charming little creatures in all their variety. Our adventure into Bayou Bird Nest flowed naturally out of this love and here you find us today.
Thanks to Jewel.!

I am sorry to say “Jewel” is no longer with us but she remains in our hearts & memories forever.
