The
Budgerigar, commonly called a parakeet or budgie, is from
Australia. Budgies live 2-7 years but, can live up to 15 with
proper care & a good size cage for exercise and play. 
While it may
be appealing to think of a little bird in a little cage, its actually
not good for them .. they need space.They are very friendly, like to sing and will love their owner(s). They hold the record on words & phrases, and can pick up new words quite easily. Some have been known to have a hundred word vocabulary. They really enjoy singing and hearing other birds, whether they're live or memorex and will not only imitate but reply or sing along.
They love to play, take baths with you & sit on your shoulder,
going with you from room to room in your home. Some breeders will
hand-feed them if you request it in advance. We hand-feed & tame
some of ours. We also allow the parents to raise some. There is a great
variety of color combinations with budgies.The budgie is an adorable pet/companion for children & adults. Their small size and sweet temprament make them excellent choices for kids & first-time bird owners. This bird is especially notable because of its precociousness and curiosity.
We frequently get calls for budgies as childrens' birthday gifts. We
recommend hand-raised budgies for kids. Note :: If you're considering
giving one as a gift, please give us notice well in advance of the
date. (2-3 months is a good period to be sure there's enough time for
hatching and hand-raising/taming)
