CONGO AFRICAN GREY





The Congo African Grey, a parrot from the Psittacine Family, has a life span of 50-70 years.  Average sizes range 12" to 14".  It's native homeland is in the lowlands of central Africa.  A Congo's coloring is mostly a light  grey, white around the eyes, with  a tail of very short, broad, bright red feathers.

Congos are probably best known for their ability to talk & mimic sounds precisely.  With a Congo around you never know if its your phone thats actually ringing or if your bird is trying to get your attention.  Yes, they are that good with sounds.
  These parrots can be very shy and reserved though, when strangers visit.

Congos require much attention and one-on-one interaction from a very early age.  They normally bond with one person but, have been known to bond with the entire family on occasions. The Congo is an extremely smart parrot.

Alex is one famous Congo you might have seen on TV. His cognitive ability is extraordinary. He is known to be able to answer questions, and even ask for things he wants. He has learned to count, differentiate between colors to correctly answer a problem question. He lives at the University of Arizona, where researchers have been working with him over the past two decades.

Babies are often taken from their parents early, to hand tame & raise at approximately 3 weeks old. With the right emotional & mental stimulation they grow to become sweet, loving pets. They bond to people as part of their family.
